Southwest of Athkatla, beyond the city’s high walls and bustling docks, lie the fertile farmlands that sustain the City of Coin. Stretching from the edges of the River Alandor to the rolling hills near Zazesspur Road, these cultivated plots form a patchwork of grain fields, vineyards, olive groves, and tobacco rows. Though not part of the official city districts, the farmland is a vital artery of Athkatla’s wealth, feeding its markets and inns while supplying key exports to Amn’s trade network. Tenant farmers and hired laborers—many under contract with mercantile houses or temples—work the land under the watchful eyes of agents from the Council of Six. Here, coin is grown from soil, and disputes over land rights and harvest yields often escalate into quiet feuds or litigious backroom dealings. Rural shrines to Chauntea dot the landscape, and caravans heading to or from Athkatla frequently stop at roadside inns nestled amid golden fields.
Golden wheat waves in the breeze alongside green olive trees and orderly grapevines. Stone-walled paths cut between farmsteads with tiled roofs and smoking chimneys. The air smells of tilled earth, livestock, and baking bread. Farmers call to one another, oxen plod through furrows, and distant bells toll softly from roadside shrines and inns.
