The High Road—often called the King’s High Road or simply “the High”—is a well-maintained trade route that links the independent trade town of Easting to the western gates of Arabel in northern Cormyr. Beginning near the confluence of the Dusk and Trader’s Roads, it climbs eastward through the fortified town of Proskur, winds through the perilous passes of the Storm Horn Mountains, and descends into Cormyr’s high plateau. As a critical artery of commerce and military movement, the road is patrolled intermittently by Purple Dragons beyond the borders of Cormyr, and vigilantly within it. Merchant caravans, pilgrims, and adventuring bands regularly traverse the route, braving harsh weather, mountain predators, and occasional raiders. Once inside Cormyr, the High Road serves as a symbol of royal authority, with mile-markers bearing the crowned stag of the Obarskyr dynasty. It remains a vital link between Cormyr and the rest of western Faerûn.
The road begins in fertile lowlands with stone-paved and hard-packed sections, bordered by merchant cairns and old wayshrines. Near Proskur, inns and trade signs abound with scents of horses and iron. In the Storm Horn Mountains, jagged cliffs and stone bridges create a dramatic, shadowed path with distant scout horns. Descending to Arabel, the road smooths, flanked by tilled fields and House Obarskyr banners, shifting from wild to orderly.
