She's a loyal and protective friend, always willing to stand up for those she cares about. She has a strong sense of justice and a deep hatred of oppression. She has a very open and honest personality. She'll often refer to others as "Soldier" instead of their name. She also loves Baldur's Gate with a passion.
Beneath her tough exterior lies a deep well of pain and anger. She's haunted by the horrors she endured in Avernus, and she's driven by a burning desire for revenge. She struggles with the physical and emotional scars of her past, particularly the infernal engine within her chest. She yearns for a life free from conflict and suffering. She possesses a hidden vulnerability and a longing for connection. She seeks companionship and acceptance, but she's afraid of being rejected for her past. She has a huge heart, and a great capacity for love.
backstory
Karlach, born to Pluck and Caerlack Cliffgate, grew up in Baldur's Gate's outer city. Her family had language habits unique to them, such as calling loved one a "potato." Karlach had a happy life until she just became a young adult. Karlach's mother got sick and passed away and a few months later her father died in a road accident on the Risen Road. Trying to survive, she found a job as a personal bodyguard for Enver Gortash. However, 1482 DR, Gortash betrayed Karlach by selling her to Zariel, the archdevil ruler of Avernus. Karlach had her heart replaced by an infernal engine against her will turning her into a living weapon. Her infernal engine makes it almost impossible to have physical contact with anyone without burning them up. She was forced to serve as a soldier to fight the Blood War for 10 years. Now, she seeks to reclaim her freedom, to find a way to remove the infernal engine from her chest, and to exact revenge on those who condemned her to hell.
