Ilmater, known as the Crying God and the Rack-Broken Lord, is the intermediate deity of endurance, martyrdom, and suffering in the Forgotten Realms. He embodies compassion and seeks to alleviate the pain of the oppressed and persecuted. His essence is that of a willing sufferer, bearing the burdens of others to spare them from anguish. Ilmater's realm, Martyrdom, is a sanctuary of peace for those who have endured suffering in life, where pain and weariness are absent. He has a deep connection with the Triad, particularly Tyr and Torm, and stands against deities who inflict suffering, such as Loviatar and Talona. Despite his fearsome wrath against cruelty, he remains hopeful for redemption, even for the most wicked beings. His teachings encourage endurance and selflessness, inspiring his followers to take on the burdens of others in his name.
