The Temple Bell of Athkatla is more than a sounding device—it is a revered structure nestled at the heart of the Temple District, a grand, freestanding bell-tower maintained jointly by the high priests of Lathander, Helm, and Talos under a rare truce. Forged over two centuries ago by the artisan-clerics of Gond and blessed by a triune convocation of priests, the bell serves to mark the rising and setting of the sun, the opening of the temple courts, and the passage of funerary rites. It is said the bell's chime resonates through the Weave itself, aiding in the passage of souls and dispelling lingering undead. In times of citywide crisis or celestial events, the Temple Bell tolls out solemn warnings or celebratory peals audible even across Waukeen’s Promenade. Although neutral ground, the tower is rumored to host clandestine meetings between temple leaders and Amnian Council agents.
The Temple Bell rises in pale contrast to the gold and crimson domes surrounding it, built from weathered marble veined with holy sigils and faded murals of sunrise, flame, and watchful eyes. The bell itself hangs beneath a steep, open arch lined with protective glyphs and soft-blue continual flame sconces that glow through the night. Ribbons, offerings, and prayer-slips flap from rails at the base, left by supplicants seeking favor or healing. The air around the tower hums faintly with divine magic, and the scent of incense from surrounding shrines drifts constantly through the square. At dawn and dusk, the peal of the bell sends a rippling vibration through stone and bone alike—an awe-striking sound that quiets the market briefly with its sacred weight.
