Tucked into the heart of Athkatla's Gem District, Starnir's Pool of Jewels is more than a storefront—it is a legend among jewelers and collectors across Amn. Established over a century ago by the dwarven master gemcutter Harnok Starnir, the shop earned its name from the enormous, mirrored scrying basin that sits at its center, enchanted to reflect the clarity and flaws of any gemstone placed within. Today, the Pool is operated by Harnok’s descendant, Brimma Starnir, a meticulous dwarf whose reputation for honesty and precision makes her a trusted source even for the Council of Six’s coin appraisers. The shop deals in raw and cut stones, enchanted gems, and rare planar crystals. Its wards are potent—rumored to be Cowled Wizard-caliber—and its clientele includes nobility, high-ranking merchants, and adventurers seeking to bind spells into jewels.
From the outside, Starnir’s Pool of Jewels gleams like a gemstone itself—walls of polished marble veined with quartz, and broad windows shielded by delicate adamant latticework etched in dwarven runes. Inside, the air is cool and dry, with soft light cast from hovering driftglobes set in glass pendants. Velvet-draped counters showcase flawless diamonds, star sapphires, fire opals, and deep emeralds, each resting on enchanted silk that hums faintly with protective magic. The central basin, the “Pool,” is a silver-rimmed scrying bowl set into the floor, its surface magically stilled like perfect water. Quiet attendants in white and gold robes move carefully between clients—some commoners, others cloaked in wealth or magical glamour.
