Hidden within a nondescript warehouse in Athkatla's Docks District, the Mae'Var Guild serves as a splinter cell of the Shadow Thieves, masquerading as a minor trade outfit. Outwardly dull and disorganized, the guild hides its criminal precision behind layers of deception, extortion, and smuggling. Operated by Mae'Var, an ambitious and ruthless mid-tier lieutenant, the guild is both a recruitment front and a proving ground for cutthroats hoping to rise within the Shadow Thieves hierarchy. Beneath its surface dealings lie clandestine tunnels, hidden armories, and enchanted vaults—secured not only by locks and traps, but by loyalty bought in blood. The guild also became infamous after a failed coup tied to internal betrayal and an exposed Harper infiltrator, leading to Mae'Var’s downfall and reinforcing the Shadow Thieves’ iron control over internal discipline.
From the outside, the Mae'Var Guild appears to be a tired-looking warehouse: warped wooden planks, salt-rusted hinges, and a sagging roofline give it the look of abandonment. Inside, however, the air sharpens—cool, low-lit chambers crisscrossed with crates, false doors, and rope pulleys hint at a more organized affair. A backroom office bears ledgers with coded transactions and a wall map of Athkatla marked with smuggling routes. Below, stone-walled tunnels lead to hidden sparring rooms, clandestine meeting halls, and locked chambers where prisoners or traitors may vanish without a trace. It’s quiet, but never still—always watched, always dangerous.
