Description

The Athkatlan Observatory stands atop a gently sloped hill in the Wave District, its copper-clad dome visible from much of the city. Officially named the Celestial Eye, this institution is a rare collaboration between magical and scientific minds, attracting astronomers, planar researchers, and Cowled Wizards alike. Within, vast star charts sprawl across circular tables, enchanted astrolabes spin silently, and scrying lenses crafted from rare gems peer far beyond Toril’s skies. While its public lecture nights are popular among nobles and students, most of its deeper work remains secretive—particularly its involvement in extraplanar mapping and time-displacement anomalies. Rumors whisper of divinations gone awry and constellations that should not exist, but its keepers remain tight-lipped. Access beyond the main dome is tightly controlled.

Appearance

A tall stone structure of dusky marble and aged brass, the Observatory gleams under starlight. Its massive rotating dome hums with quiet enchantments, and runes flicker subtly along the base of its telescope mount. Ornate spiral steps wrap its outer walls, while the entryway bears carvings of stars, comets, and celestial spheres. The interior smells of parchment, oil, and old magic.
