Tucked into a discreet stone hall within Athkatla’s Wave District, the Lazarus Library is a hushed sanctuary of knowledge prized by both scholars and cautious mages. Though not grand in size, it is dense with rare treatises, forbidden histories, and recovered scrolls salvaged from ancient ruins across Amn and Tethyr. Established in part by a former Cowled Wizard turned archivist, the library now operates independently, though it maintains delicate relations with the city's arcane regulators. Its custodians include scribes, priests, and even repentant necromancers who seek to preserve knowledge of life, death, and resurrection—a thematic trinity that gives the library its name. Though it is not a public institution, those bearing proper credentials—or proper coin—may gain access to its reading chambers or contract its learned staff for translations, ward-breaking, or funerary research.
The Lazarus Library appears unassuming from the street: a weathered granite facade framed by storm-dark ivy and marked only by a carved symbol of an open eye above a rising sun. Inside, the scent of old vellum and warded ink saturates the air. Dim orange witchlights float along carved wooden arches, casting long shadows over rows of iron-braced shelves. Brass-plated doors lead to warded rooms where more dangerous or sacred tomes are kept under lock, glyph, and prayer. Alcoves bear statues of ancient scribes and forgotten deities, and a central oculus in the main chamber bathes the reading tables in soft natural light—when Amn's skies allow it.
