Shadowheart is enigmatic, reserved, and fiercely independent. She's a devout follower of Shar, but she also possesses a hidden sense of curiosity and a willingness to question authority. She's intelligent, resourceful, and skilled in the arts of stealth and deception. She is very guarded. Beneath her guarded exterior lies a deep well of pain and confusion. She's haunted by fragmented memories and a nagging sense that something is missing from her life. She struggles with the conflict between her devotion to Shar and her growing sense of self. She possesses a hidden vulnerability and a longing for connection. She seeks understanding and acceptance, but she's afraid of revealing her true self. She has a very strong will.

Shadowheart, originally named Jenevelle, was raised in a secluded Selûnite household outside Baldur's Gate. Her childhood was filled with devotion to the Moonmaiden, until Shar, Selûne's dark sister, intervened. Viconia DeVir and her Sharran followers kidnapped Jenevelle, along with her father Arnell Hallowleaf and and mother Emmeline Hallowleaf. Taken to the Cloister of Sombre Embrace in Baldur's Gate, Jenevelle was subjected to brutal indoctrination, including the repeated use of the Mirror of Loss, which slowly erased her past and forged her into a Sharran acolyte named Shadowheart. Under Viconia's cruel tutelage, Shadowheart endured relentless torture and manipulation, being forced to believe her parents were killed by wolves. Shadowheart developed a fondness for flowers and animals, remnants of her Selûnite upbringing. Later, she was tasked with retrieving a powerful githyanki artifact to thwart a new cult that had just appeared in Baldur's Gate.
