Trying to survive, she found a job as a personal bodyguard for Enver Gortash. However, 1482 DR, Gortash betrayed Karlach by selling her to Zariel, the archdevil ruler of Avernus. Karlach had her heart replaced by an infernal engine against her will turning her into a living weapon. Her infernal engine makes it almost impossible to have physical contact with anyone without burning them up. She was forced to serve as a soldier to fight the Blood War for 10 years. Now, she seeks to reclaim her freedom, to find a way to remove the infernal engine from her chest, and to exact revenge on those who condemned her to hell.
