Mournguard

Mournguard

  • Role: Defender / Tank / Anchor

  • Origin Regions: Eldranly’s, Lumensor, Arcadia

  • Factions: The Ashbinders’ Guild, The Mire Echoes

Lore:
Mournguards are ceremonial warriors who absorb and bear the emotional burdens of others, protecting the fragile through heavy armor and reactive defense. They intercept soul-based attacks, channel traumatic memories into counterstrikes, and may form Grief Pacts to carry unresolved emotional pain, revered in Lumensor and feared in battle. Often they are sacred sentinels of loss—guardians of graves, battlefield shrines, and ancient vows. They wear armor passed down through generations and bear the names of the fallen carved into their weapons. They do not shy from pain but carry it visibly, as both shield and sword.

Core Abilities:

  • Grave Resolve: Immune to fear/charm when guarding a protected target or sacred ground.

  • Bonewall Stance: Adjacent allies gain +1 AC when you are wielding a shield or heavy weapon.

  • Weight of Memory: Gain temp HP when allies fall near you.

  • Shield of Names: Once per long rest, impose disadvantage on attacks targeting an adjacent ally.

Unique Feature:
Legacy Anchor – A chosen heirloom records emotional echoes in combat. After storing 3 echoes, you may unleash a powerful retaliation or defensive maneuver. (Cancel recent damage from enemy and apply 100% return retaliation)
