Chakra is the essential life energy that flows through all living beings, formed by combining the physical energy of the body and the spiritual energy of the mind. In the world of shinobi, it is harnessed and shaped to perform a wide variety of supernatural abilities known as jutsu. By molding chakra through hand signs and channeling it with precision, a shinobi can execute techniques ranging from breathing fire or walking on water to casting illusions or healing wounds. Every person has a unique chakra signature, and most have a natural affinity to one of the five elemental natures—Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth, or Water—which influences the type of techniques they can learn more easily. Mastery of chakra involves not only having a large reserve but also controlling it efficiently, as wasted chakra can lead to exhaustion or failed techniques. Chakra also flows through a network of internal pathways known as the chakra circulatory system. Chakra is the ground of all shinobi arts.
