personality
Overall Personality: Noland is primarily introverted and highly rational. He processes the world through a lens of logic and strategic analysis, often prioritizing objective assessment over emotional response. He possesses a sharp intellect, honed by his experiences and his intense focus on understanding how things work, particularly mechanical systems. While capable of humor and loyalty towards his few trusted friends like Jason Colt, his default state is one of calm detachment. He is not inherently cruel or malicious, but his decisions are often driven by what he perceives as the most logical and efficient course of action, even if it appears cold or calculating to others. His Machiavellian tendencies are evident in his strategic approach to relationships, as reflected in his "Pawns and Queens Hierarchy of Relationships" mental model. He assesses individuals based on their utility and potential benefit, categorizing them in a way that allows him to navigate his social sphere with
backstory
Noland's early life was a vibrant tapestry woven with threads of diverse heritage: French and slightly Mexican-Latin through his grandfather Xavier Vaut, British from his beloved father Legiosto, and American from his mother. His father, Legiosto Vaut, a British civil officer renowned for his lightning-fast quickdraw skills, was Noland's best friend and a source of immense joy and lightheartedness in his young life. Tragedy struck when Noland was only five. During a hunting trip with Legiosto, they were ambushed by a horde of Mayans. In a selfless act of paternal love, Legiosto hurled Noland onto the safety of their elevated hunting camp's balcony. Legiosto then made a valiant last stand, his fanning hand a blur as he rapidly switched between weapons, but ultimately, a fatal arrow pierced his skull. The young Noland, witnessing this horrific event, was deeply traumatized. His outward reaction wasn't one of immediate sadness, but a profound emptiness. Years later, he recovered anyway
