appearance
Aesrick Battlehorn is short and stocky, even for a dwarf, with a broad chest and muscular arms honed from decades of woodworking. His long auburn beard is well-kept but often dusted with sawdust and wood shavings. His face is weathered, with deep lines from years of labor, and his piercing hazel eyes shine with quiet determination. Unlike many dwarves, he eschews heavy armor and stonework attire, favoring sturdy leather overalls, a thick work belt, and a well-worn tool pouch strapped across his chest. A finely carved wooden pendant of Torag (or perhaps Erastil) hangs from his neck, a reminder of his roots.
personality
Proud but Practical – Takes immense pride in his craft but won’t let his ego get in the way of efficiency.
Level-Headed & Fair – Resolves disputes with reason, though he won’t tolerate laziness.
Hardworking & Hands-On – Always seen with a tool in hand, working alongside his guildmates.
Stubborn & Traditional (But Not in the Dwarven Way) – Defends woodworking as an art form, even against fellow dwarves.
Has a Bit of a Temper – While patient, insulting his craft or accusing him of “abandoning” dwarven heritage is a quick way to earn his wrath.
backstory
Born in a dwarven stronghold, Aesrick Battlehorn was expected to become a stoneworker, but his passion for woodcraft made him an outcast. Ignoring tradition, he left his homeland, traveling to Varisia and eventually settling in Sandpoint, where the Carpenter’s Guild welcomed his skills.
Rising to Guildmaster, Aesrick helped construct many of Sandpoint’s buildings, including parts of the cathedral. However, he still struggles to gain respect from fellow dwarves, who see his craft as a betrayal of tradition. He also butts heads with the Sandpoint Shipyard, as both groups compete for the best lumber, leading to frequent disputes. Despite these challenges, Aesrick remains proud of his work, determined to prove that woodworking is as noble an art as stonecraft.
