Gant County

Gant County

Gant County. The northern side of Gant county is the southern slope of Gant Mountain, specifically an area known as Gant's Jaunt. To the east, Gant county is bordered by Erma's Sorrow Lake, named after Henry Gant's Widow. The southern portion of Gant county is mostly forest hills and wilderness, with a small area on the western bank of Erma's Sorrow

Gant Mountain

Gant Mountain

Gant Mountain is a solitary, imposing peak rising 2000 feet above the rolling Ozark foothills, casting a long shadow over the nearby town of Erma's Will. Its rugged slopes are largely untamed, while the side facing the town and the deep Erma's Sorrow lake features a plateau known as Gant's Jaunt, a challenging area that was once claimed by pioneer Henry Gant in the early 1800s.

Gant's Jaunt

Gant's Jaunt

Gant's Jaunt is a flat plateau named after Henry Gant, a legendary figure who is said to have tamed the surrounding mountainside. The area is marked by wildflowers and sparse trees, with a haunting beauty that tells the tale of loss, as it was here that Erma Gant mourned her husband after a series of tragic events. On the eastern side of Gant's Jaunt sits the Irvineshire Estate, once a lavish mansion built in the late 1800's by a local business owner. The estate, now a remodeled hotel and accompanying retinue of structures that surround it, serve as a resort of sorts for the wealthy and well-to-do Summer visitors.

Irvineshire Estate is a resort on Gant Mountain. Once a lavish suite, it has been remodeled into an exclusive summer retreat for the wealthy, complete with guest houses and opulent amenities, yet it remains a controversial symbol of excess in the serene Ozarks.
