An imposing Giff with a broad, muscular frame and military posture. Dusky gray fur flecked with white around the muzzle and eyes. Wears an old, worn infantry coat with the insignia torn off, and carries a well-oiled club at her hip. Her deep, calm voice rarely needs to be raised to be heard.

Blunt, direct, doesn’t play games. Treats everyone like a soldier under her watch until they prove otherwise. Prefers action over discussion, but has a quiet wisdom. Grudgingly loyal, once trust is earned. Carries the weight of disappointment—in the world and in herself.

Bertha served in a continental infantry unit, posted far from Waterdeep. Despite years on campaign, she saw little actual combat, and the long stretches of tedium and bureaucracy left her disillusioned and jaded. When her service ended, she wandered into Waterdeep and fell into a cycle of gambling, drinking, and drifting, eventually incurring a substantial debt to a criminal lender known only as The Company. Now partnered with Zech under Company orders, she’s been given one last shot: turn the rundown Trollskull Manor into a profitable business—or die trying.
