backstory
Kelvar Helmfast, affectionately known as 'The Old Captain,' was the patriarch of the noble House Helmfast in Waterdeep during the mid-to-late 14th century DR. As the Master Shipwright of the Order of Master Shipwrights guild, he played a pivotal role in the city's maritime endeavors. In the late 1330s DR, Kelvar engaged in a spontaneous duel with Lorngar Roaringhorn within the Great Library of the House of the Moon, resulting in significant damage. Both families made reparations far exceeding the cost of the destruction. By 1357 DR, Kelvar held his positions as both the head of House Helmfast and the guildmaster of the Order of Master Shipwrights, roles he maintained through at least 1372 DR. Kelvar's consort was Ranya Helmfast, and their eldest son and heir was Edwind Helmfast, also known as 'The Young Captain.'
