In early 1370 DR, Asborn fell deeply in love with Elene Ruldegost, a member of a rival noble family in Waterdeep. Their families' historical animosity made their union contentious. The Ruldegosts stipulated that Asborn must retrieve a rare crystal rose from the perilous Garden of the Drow in Undermountain to earn their blessing. Undeterred, Asborn ventured into Undermountain but went missing for over a week. Concerned, Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun dispatched an agent to locate him. The agent discovered Asborn's remains sealed within the garden's chamber, where he had perished from starvation. The agent retrieved the crystal rose and delivered it to Elene as a token of Asborn's enduring love.
