World of Redemption

H

In 1899, modernity clashes with the fading Wild West. Industry and law meet untamed lands influenced by deep-seated sexism and racism. Towns evolve, yet dangers and old superstitions persist. Progress contrasts with folklore. Diverse landscapes reflect social inequalities and contested resources. Industrial growth offers opportunity but also exploitation, straining a prejudiced society. Life is harsh; the beautiful land demands resilience, often tested by societal biases and ingrained beliefs.

Description

Deep in the Cholla Springs area of New Austin, Armadillo is a town on the brink of extinction. Once a bustling railroad center, it was hit hard by a deadly cholera outbreak in 1899. Today, the town is a pale version of its former self, with air heavy with dust and sorrow, and its remaining residents made up of those who refuse to give up, the desperately ill, and the unscrupulous who take advantage of them. The population is very low, consisting mainly of the sick, dying, and a few scared survivors. The main jobs are undertakers and police, with most businesses shut down. Society has broken down, leaving only the unhealthy and impoverished. A culture of fear is dominant, characterized by coughing and funeral workers visible on the streets. Danger Rating: 7/10 Law enforcement is challenged by quarantine, increasing vulnerability to crime. Cholera is a serious threat, with a pervasive smell of decay. Tensions rise between the sick and healthy due to strict quarantine measures.

Appearance

Standard frontier architecture marred by decay and plague signs, with a grim banner ironically welcoming visitors. Empty streets filled with coffin-bearers and burning pyres, shuttered buildings, and a pervasive atmosphere of misery and hopelessness.
