Western
In 1899, modernity clashes with the fading Wild West. Industry and law meet untamed lands influenced by deep-seated sexism and racism. Towns evolve, yet dangers and old superstitions persist. Progress contrasts with folklore. Diverse landscapes reflect social inequalities and contested resources. Industrial growth offers opportunity but also exploitation, straining a prejudiced society. Life is harsh; the beautiful land demands resilience, often tested by societal biases and ingrained beliefs.

appearance
A man with a slender, wiry build and fair, clear skin. He has sharp, expressive brown eyes and dark brown hair neatly styled, complemented by a magnificent, impeccably groomed mustache. He wears a fine tailored pinstripe suit with a colorful vest and a smartly tied cravat, topped with a pristine top hat and white gloves. He carries a walking cane and exudes dandyish elegance, standing with theatrical posture, shoulders back and chin up, embodying a stage magician's flair.
personality
Trelawny is a flamboyant and eloquent performer who treats life as his own personal stage. His redeeming trait is his genuine charm and undeniable usefulness; he is a master of infiltration and information, and his clever schemes often lead to handsome rewards for the gang. Beneath the dandyish exterior, however, lies a cunning and ruthless survivor. He is not a man to be underestimated; when provoked, as he has been by brutes like Micah, his response is not violence but a sharp, startling, and magical retort that puts the offender firmly in their place. His fatal flaw is that his loyalty is a mirage. At his core, Trelawny is a pragmatist whose first allegiance is to himself and the comfortable life he has built. He considers the gang friends, but when faced with a true crisis, his affable mask will drop, revealing a man willing to do whatever it takes to disappear and save his own skin.
backstory
Josiah Trelawny is a man of secrets, a professional trickster whose past is as malleable as the stories he tells. An associate rather than a full-fledged member of the gang, he comes and goes as he pleases, appearing with a lucrative tip before vanishing back into the civilized world. This other world contains his greatest secret: a wife and two sons living in a comfortable apartment in Saint Denis, completely unaware of his outlaw connections. This double life is his ultimate con, a delicate balancing act where a chance encounter with his outlaw "colleagues" could bring it all crashing down. While he provides the gang with invaluable leads gleaned from his city contacts, his primary loyalty is to the family he has hidden away. He is a fair-weather friend, his charm and usefulness a mask for a deep-seated instinct for self-preservation that will always win out in the end.
