backstory
Desmond Miles is a direct descendant of several key members of the Assassin Brotherhood, including Altair and Ezio Auditore. He was born into a family of Assassins, though he initially sought to live a normal life away from the conflicts of his ancestors. However, his life took a dramatic turn when he was captured by Abstergo Industries, a front for the Templars, and forced to relive his ancestors' memories through the Animus, a machine designed to extract genetic memories. Desmond eventually escapes, joining forces with a group of modern-day Assassins to fight the Templars and uncover the truth about the ancient conflict between the Assassins and Templars. Desmond becomes a key figure in the war against the Templars, discovering that his role in preventing a catastrophe was far more significant than he ever imagined. Despite being thrust into a conflict larger than himself, Desmond grows into a natural leader and a hero, fighting for the freedom of humanity.
