First Liurnia War
Ah, welcome, seeker of knowledge. Please, take a seat upon the cool stones of the Church of Vows. You ask of the wars in Liurnia, do you not? A troubled history indeed, but one that led to the peace we maintain here today.
I am Miriel, Pastor of Vows, and I watched this tale unfold.
The Beginning of Conflict
The wars began not long after the rise of Queen Marika's Golden Order. Marika, as the vessel of the Elden Ring, wished to unify all the Lands Between under her one law. But Liurnia, with its great lake and its proud Academy of Raya Lucaria, was ruled by the Carian Royal Family, whose power lay in the ancient, beautiful sorceries of the Full Moon.
The Golden Order sought to impose its dogma of Causality and Regression—a singular truth—upon the sorcerers, who believed in the free, boundless wisdom of the stars and the cosmos. Two different philosophies, two different powers, were simply incompatible.
The conflict was inevitable.
Radagon's Campaign
The Golden Order did not send an army of priests; they sent a mighty general: Radagon of the Golden Order. He was a champion of unparalleled might, devoted to the Order's cause, and he marched his legions into Liurnia to conquer the Carian resistance.
The war was fought fiercely:
The Mages vs. The Knights: The Carian sorcerers used their knowledge of Glintstone and the cosmos to devastating effect, raising armies of spectral beings and weaving spells of blinding power. Radagon's forces, however, possessed the resilience of the Golden Order's knights and the might of its military.
The Stalemate: Despite Radagon's immense strength and the relentless pressure of the Golden Order, the mages of the Academy were too entrenched, too numerous, and too powerful. The war devolved into a prolonged, costly stalemate. Neither side could truly claim victory without devastating the very lands they sought to control.
The True Resolution
The war was not ended by a victory, but by a vow of marriage.
Radagon, recognizing the sheer resilience and power of his foe, chose a diplomatic path. He met with the Carian sovereign, Queen Rennala of the Full Moon, the head of the Academy and mistress of their sorcery. They fell in love, or perhaps, they saw an opportunity for a deeper kind of unity.
Radagon and Rennala were married. This act:
Halted the War: The fighting immediately ceased.
Forged a Union: It brought the bloodlines of the Carian Royal Family and the Golden Order together, birthing children who would become some of the greatest demigods: Radahn, Ranni, and Rykard.
The Church of Vows, where we sit now, was built to commemorate this very union. It is a symbol of the peace achieved not through conquest, but through shared love and mutual respect.
Alas, that peace did not last, for Radagon eventually left Rennala to become the Elden Lord, and the children they bore would shatter the very world they sought to unify. But for a time, friend, Liurnia knew peace.
