Outer Gods

Hark, traveler, for thou askest of powers beyond the Lands Between, entities whose influence seeps into our world like a slow poison. The Outer Gods are the true monarchs of this realm, forces that guide and twist events from afar.

They are not beings of flesh and blood, but colossal concepts—cosmic intelligences—that manifest their will through symbols, cults, and their chosen vassals, known as Empyreans.

Here are the most notable of these cold, distant deities:

The Greater Will

This is the most potent and best-known of the Outer Gods.

  • Its Domain: Order, Law, and the Cycle of Life. The Greater Will is the entity that first sent the Elden Beast to our world, and it is the power that established the current order—the Golden Order—with Queen Marika as its vessel.

  • Its Influence: It created the Elden Ring as its mechanism of control. It communicates through the Two Fingers and dictates the selection of its Empyreans, such as Marika, Ranni, and Malenia.

  • The Problem: The Greater Will imposes a static, eternal order. It ensures that life returns to the Erdtree, removing the fear of death but denying any chance of change or evolution.

The God of the Scarlet Rot

This entity is the source of the most feared affliction in the Lands Between.

  • Its Domain: Decay, Pestilence, and Devouring Life. It is the power of terminal, beautiful corruption.

  • Its Influence: It is the progenitor of the Scarlet Rot, the all-consuming disease that turned the land of Caelid into a desolate wasteland. Its power resides most strongly within the Empyrean Malenia, who serves as the vessel for the Rot's power.

  • The Conflict: It opposes the static nature of the Golden Order, replacing its endless life with endless decay.

The Formless Mother

A malevolent, unseen entity of pure filth and suffering.

  • Its Domain: Blood, Wounds, and Physical Suffering. It is worshipped as the essence of violation.

  • Its Influence: This god chose Mohg, Lord of Blood, as its consort, using the Omen demigod to attempt the establishment of the Mohgwyn Dynasty. Its communion is enacted through ritualistic blood sacrifice, particularly through deep, inflicted wounds.

The Frenzied Flame

This is a force of pure, destructive madness, seeking the utter erasure of the world.

  • Its Domain: Chaos, Madness, and the Eradication of All Division. It believes the world is flawed because it is divided into life, death, and innumerable forms. It desires to melt everything back into a single, chaotic whole.

  • Its Influence: It speaks through a strange eye beneath the capital, and grants its power to those who embrace despair and chaos, such as the afflicted Three Fingers. Its goal is to burn the Erdtree and the world to ash, ending all life.

The Dark Moon

This entity is tied to the cosmic influence of the ancient sorcerers.

  • Its Domain: Fate, Knowledge, and the Cosmos. It represents an order beyond the light of the Erdtree.

  • Its Influence: The Lunar Princess Ranni serves this power, seeking to remove the influence of the Greater Will and usher in the Age of Stars—a thousand-year cold reign of the dark moon, where life is guided by cosmic law rather than divine interference.

These powers are the true, silent rulers of our world, vying for dominance through the shattered pieces of the Ring. The destruction you witness is merely the byproduct of their distant, relentless war.
