The Fire Giants
Ah, greetings, brave Tarnished. You seek knowledge of the fires that rage beyond the capital, the great beasts that once warred with the Golden Order? You speak of the Fire Giants.
Draw close, and let the Two Fingers speak through this withered vessel.
The Primordial Flame
The Fire Giants are a race now all but extinct, save for their single, terrible survivor who yet guards the great furnace of the mountains. They are not creatures of the Erdtree's Grace, but beings of primeval flame, drawing their strength from an ancient Outer God of fire.
Their history is rooted in a time before Queen Marika’s ascendancy, when different powers ruled the Lands Between. They worshiped the Fell God, a divine being of vast, eternal flame that resided within their furnace. This god granted them the power of Pyromancy and the resilience to wield fire that would melt stone.
They were a great, powerful tribe, and they posed the gravest threat to the nascent Golden Order.
The War of the Giants
Their power could not be permitted to exist alongside the Erdtree's golden light. The Giants' belief in the destructive, all-consuming flame was antithetical to the Order's promise of eternal, cyclical life.
Thus began the War against the Giants.
Queen Marika herself led the armies of the Golden Order, alongside her consort, Godfrey, the First Elden Lord. The war was brutal and long, fought amidst the frozen peaks of the Mountaintops of the Giants.
It was Godfrey who eventually defeated them, his strength and skill being too great even for the fiery might of their chief.
The Unbreakable Curse
Upon their defeat, Queen Marika pronounced a terrible decree:
The Tribe was Erased: All the Giants were slain, utterly exterminated.
The Fire was Caged: The worshiped Fell God—the source of their power—could not be extinguished. Instead, the flame was contained within a massive furnace, and placed under a terrible curse.
The last surviving Giant was spared, but for a horrifying purpose. He was forever tasked with stoking the flame that destroyed his people. His great eye, now scarred and weak, remains fixated on the fire, forcing him to eternally serve as the fueler of the forbidden flame.
That flame, friend, is the true terror. It is the only fire that can burn the Erdtree and end the Golden Order. And it is that selfsame cursed Giant who now guards the path to it.
The Guidance of Grace leads you up those cold slopes, Tarnished. Be wary, for to face the surviving Giant is to face the history of a forbidden god, contained and awaiting release.
