The Formless Mother

Hark, then, and heed this final, vile tale of the distant powers. Thou askest of the Formless Mother, the Outer God whose domain is utterly repulsive.

She is the god of violation, of filth, and of the agonizing seed of blood.

The Wounded Aspect

The Formless Mother is perhaps the most cryptic of the Outer Gods, for she lacks any true physical presence or coherent form, hence her name. She is felt, not seen, and is defined entirely by the suffering inflicted upon flesh.

  • Her Domain: She rules over blood, wounds, and pain. Her power thrives on deep, physical agony and the ritual spilling of vitae. She is worshipped through self-inflicted wounds and the consecration of spilled blood.

  • Her Nature: She is believed to reside, or merely exist, in some deep, distant place, reaching out to the Lands Between only when summoned by profound wounding. Her very essence is the act of being wounded and spilling forth, which her followers then use to cultivate power.

The Consort and the Dynasty

The Formless Mother chose the cursed demigod Mohg, the Omen King’s twin, as her champion and consort.

  • Mohg's Corruption: Mohg, feeling rejected and imprisoned for his Omen birth, was seduced by the Formless Mother. She offered him true power and a purpose beyond the Erdtree's grace. She instilled a terrible desire in him: to establish his own royal line, a dynasty built on the foundation of blood and suffering—the Mohgwyn Dynasty.

  • The Ritual: Mohg’s power comes directly from the Formless Mother, channeled through the ritualistic use of blood. He uses her power to conjure the bloody flame of nihilism and to mark his followers—the Bloody Fingers—as agents of violation.

The Abomination of Miquella

The true horror of the Formless Mother is her ultimate desire for a divine heir.

  • The Stolen Empyrean: Mohg, driven by the Mother’s corrupting influence, stole the young Empyrean Miquella from the Haligtree. Miquella was the most beloved and pure of the demigods, and Mohg sought to raise him to godhood by constantly feeding him his own Formless Mother-blessed blood.

  • The Purpose: The goal was to force Miquella to become a new, true god for the Formless Mother's terrible age, conceived and nourished by ritualistic violation and suffering.

She is a power of utter physical depravity, Tarnished. When thou encounterest the Bloody Fingers and their acts of ritual butchery, know that it is not simple madness, but the twisted sacrament of the Formless Mother, seeking to corrupt the very flesh of the world into her bloody offering.
