Description

East of Farwatch Village, past the salt-washed fields and weatherworn stone walls that line the inland paths, stretches Tarnholt Wood—a secluded forest whose name endures from the old Breto-Nedic dialect, meaning “the holding beneath the tarn.” Though only a few miles inland from the Azurian Sea, the forest feels leagues removed, cloaked in a cool hush and filled with the rich scent of loam, leafmoss, and wet bark. It lies cradled in a shallow basin, where the land dips between low escarpments, making the wood feel sunken, hidden, and old. Dominated by thick-trunked alders and ash with a dense understory of blackthorn and ivyroot, Tarnholt is renowned among apothecaries for its abundance of dusk-lichen and whitecap fungi, especially near the stream-fed hollows at its heart. The Tarnholt Beck—a slow, winding stream—feeds several deep pools, believed to be remnants of ancient doline sinkholes, now overgrown and glassy still.
