Abyss Wood

Abyss Wood

The Abyss Wood is a dark and eerie forest, shrouded in perpetual twilight. Thick, twisted trees with gnarled, blackened branches stretch high into the sky, their leaves a deep, unnatural green that filters the sunlight, casting everything beneath into shadow. The air is damp, heavy with the scent of decay and moss, and the silence is broken only by the occasional whisper of the wind through the trees or the distant rustle of unseen creatures. Despite its ominous reputation, the Abyss Wood is rumored to contain ancient ruins, hidden secrets, and powerful artifacts, drawing adventurers and treasure hunters willing to brave its dangers. However, few return, and those who do are often forever changed by the experiences they encounter within the dark heart of the forest.

Alexandria

Alexandria

Once a glorious capital, Alexandria now lies in ruins, echoing the whispers of its tragic past. The remnants of majestic buildings crumble under the weight of time, telling tales of a civilization that fell victim to its own hubris. Ghostly figures of former residents are said to wander the streets, a constant reminder of the vengeful Mist Dragon's wrath that led to their demise.

Dark Knights' Barracks

Dark Knights' Barracks

The Dark Knights' Barracks in Midgar is an imposing structure that stands at the edge of the city, a stone fortress surrounded by high walls and well-guarded gates. The barracks are designed to be both a place of training and a symbol of the kingdom’s military might, housing the elite force of warriors who are as skilled in magic as they are in swordsmanship. The atmosphere around the barracks is one of discipline and power, with an air of quiet authority that radiates from the heavily guarded entrances and the stern expressions of the knights themselves. The Dark Knights' Barracks are a place where the elite of Midgar are forged, where the line between sorcery and steel is blurred, and where loyalty to the kingdom is tested through both physical and magical trials. It is a place of power, where warriors are molded into the perfect blend of magic-wielding swordsmen, ready to face any threat—whether from within the kingdom or beyond its borders.

Lindwurm

Lindwurm

Lindwurm is home to a massive church that looks like it’s been carved directly out of the mountain, and the townscape laid out below it has whitewashed buildings. The main street running through the town is swarming with tourists, and it ends in a long set of stairs leading directly to the church. Lindwurm has also developed into a major city since the construction of the reservoir dam, which maximized its abundant water resources. The dam's development also consisted of improving the Sacred Land's water and sewage systems and building multiple aqueducts throughout the city. As a result, there are an increased number of small and large underground facilities at an accelerating rate to the point where no one could keep track on all of them. A battle event called "Goddess' Trail" is held once every year in Lindwurm's Sanctuary. The winner would get a sword of their pick in the Sanctuary's Vault, given to them by the High Priest.

Midgar Kingdom's Capital

Midgar Kingdom's Capital

The capital of the Midgar Kingdom is a grand and fortified city strategically located near a major river, offering both defense and trade advantages. The city is built on a raised plateau, with towering walls and large gates that provide protection from external threats. The river serves as a vital transportation route, with docks and harbors bustling with ships carrying goods to and from the kingdom. Around the capital, the landscape is a fertile farmland, which supply the city with food and resources. To the north, the terrain becomes more rugged, with dense forests and mountain ranges that form a natural barrier. The southern approach is flatter, making it easier for trade caravans to reach the capital. Inside the city, grand boulevards lead to key locations such as the royal palace, the central marketplace, and the military barracks. The streets are lined with large stone buildings and cobblestone roads, giving the city a blend of medieval grandeur and practicality.

Midgar's Central Marketplace

Midgar's Central Marketplace

The central marketplace of Midgar is a bustling, vibrant hub of commerce and activity, situated in the heart of the capital. It sprawls across an expansive open area, bordered by towering stone buildings, with narrow alleyways and grand streets leading to it from all corners of the city. The marketplace is a crossroads where people from all walks of life converge—traders, nobles, craftsmen, and commoners, each bringing their goods and services to be bought and sold. Despite the vibrancy and commerce, there’s a certain sense of controlled chaos, where the pulse of the kingdom’s economy and the movement of its people come together in a delicate balance. The central marketplace is as much a symbol of Midgar’s prosperity as it is a reflection of its social complexities—where the common folk rub shoulders with the elite, and deals of both legitimate and shadowy nature are struck in the same crowded space.

Underground Slave Market

Underground Slave Market

Despite its underground nature, the slave trading market is not without its network of informants, and it is known to have ties to corrupt officials and powerful figures within Midgar’s society. The city's noble elite, though they publicly decry the practice, often turn a blind eye to the existence of this hidden market, benefiting from its existence in ways few dare to acknowledge. The market itself is a cavernous, hidden arena, with crude torches casting flickering shadows across the grim faces of those involved in the trade. The walls are lined with iron bars, behind which the slaves—many from distant lands or captured during raids—are held in cages, their eyes hollow and full of despair. Some are bound in chains, while others wear tattered remnants of clothing, their bodies marked with bruises and scars from their harsh treatment.
