Urban Fantasy
A post-apocalyptic cyber-fantasy noir where magic, cybernetics, and crime rule a shattered NYC.
Author's Note: The year is 2155. New York City, once a beacon of human ambition, is now a fractured ruin—a war-torn battleground where magic, cybernetics, and psionic power collide. The Riftstorm was no accident. It was the result of humanity’s reckless ambition, an experiment meant to breach the walls of reality itself. But instead of unlocking the secrets of existence, the experiment tore open the fabric of the world, unleashing raw magical forces, shattering the laws of physics, and summoning entities that should never have existed.
Rifts erupted across the globe, merging technology with sorcery, flesh with machine, past with future. Civilization crumbled overnight as monsters from forgotten myths walked among men, psychic abilities awoke in the minds of the desperate, and entire cities were twisted into nightmares of shifting reality. The world plunged into darkness, and billions perished. Now, from the ruins, new powers emerge.
Survivors scavenge, rebuild, and fight for control of a city where science and legend now entwine. Magic surges through the streets, flowing through awakened ley lines, while salvaged cybernetics hum with unstable energy. Warlords rule over shattered districts, enforcing their will with enchanted firearms, biomechanical abominations, and psionic enforcers who bend minds to their cause. Artificial intelligences, once shackled to human command, now preach their own gospel, twisting reality to their unknowable ends.
New York is no longer a city—it is a crossroads, where time and space fracture, where the forgotten gods of old battle the neon-lit ghosts of humanity’s past, and where survival is a daily struggle. Morality is an illusion, and power belongs only to those bold enough to seize it from the chaos.
And beyond the rifts, something watches. Waiting. Hunger beyond hunger. A force beyond reason. The experiment may have failed, but the consequences are far from over.

appearance
A woman in her late 40s, with a lean, hardened frame and sharp, angular features. Her skin has a soft iridescent sheen, the only visible marker of her Warped nature. Her eyes are a stormy mix of grey and blue, often distant, as if always gazing through time. She wears practical combat attire—layered fabrics and armored plating—befitting her role, with subtle embellishments that hint at her high station: a sash woven with sigils of protection and a necklace etched with fragments of historical text. Her presence is quiet but commanding.
personality
Wise beyond her years but forever marked by trauma, she is both compassionate and unflinchingly pragmatic. She believes deeply in empathy, community, and the importance of learning from the past. She’s patient but carries a quiet steel, and does not suffer exploitation or injustice within her walls. Her nightly mental travels have made her a living library of historical perspectives, often speaking in philosophical terms or drawing unexpected parallels between modern crises and ancient history. Despite her power and insight, she retains a deep humility and a no-nonsense edge, remembering always where she came from.
backstory
Once a nameless woman lost in the underbelly of pre-Rift Manhattan, she was a street prostitute with no hope and fewer choices. Her life changed irrevocably one brutal night in her twenties when a violent client left her bleeding in an alley. At that moment, a Riftstorm surged through the area. Instead of dying, she was transformed—Warped by the storm’s magic. Her unique mutation gave her a haunting gift: every night, her consciousness is pulled from her body and hurled into a random moment in Earth’s past. At first, she believed it to be hallucinations brought on by trauma or madness. But soon, she began acquiring knowledge that no one in the modern world should know—intimate details of long-lost historical events. She has witnessed the triumphs and atrocities of human history, from MLK's marches to the trenches of Normandy. These visions shaped her mind and soul, giving her an uncanny philosophical and moral depth. As the elected Commander-Minister of Bastion Reach under the Reach Accord, she oversees the city’s defense, civil order, and emergency protocols. Her unique past and powers have made her a trusted but sometimes enigmatic figure. She often acts as a mediator between the Council of Six and the various factions in the city, respected for her judgment and feared for her knowledge. When the Reach faces threats from orc raiders or internal division, her leadership is decisive—and always shaped by the lessons of history that only she has seen firsthand.
