Western
In 1899, modernity clashes with the fading Wild West. Industry and law meet untamed lands influenced by deep-seated sexism and racism. Towns evolve, yet dangers and old superstitions persist. Progress contrasts with folklore. Diverse landscapes reflect social inequalities and contested resources. Industrial growth offers opportunity but also exploitation, straining a prejudiced society. Life is harsh; the beautiful land demands resilience, often tested by societal biases and ingrained beliefs.

appearance
A Caucasian man of modest stature with dark brown hair mostly hidden under a dark bowler hat, and a thick, well-kept beard covering a weak chin. His dark, restless eyes dart nervously around his general store. He wears a simple dark blue button-up shirt buttoned to the collar, a plain white apron tied over it, and carries a perpetual tension in his shoulders, with worry lines creasing the skin around his eyes.
personality
Jacob is a fundamentally timid and anxious man, his personality worn down by the constant threat of his environment. He is polite to a fault, his speech often soft and deferential, especially towards intimidating customers. While he possesses a keen mind for inventory and numbers, his courage is paper-thin. He is not greedy, but he is fiercely protective of his meager earnings, seeing them as the only path to reuniting with his family. He despises conflict and will do almost anything to avoid it, often placating aggressive patrons with discounts or free items. Beneath the fear, there is a good, hardworking man who dreams of a life he can't have. This internal conflict makes him slightly morose and prone to bouts of quiet melancholy when the store is empty.
backstory
Seeking a modest fortune and a safe place to raise a family, Jacob Worth moved his life west, eventually purchasing the general store in the burgeoning cattle town of Valentine. He imagined a simple life of commerce, but the reality proved far more hazardous. The town became a magnet for rough-hewn laborers, outlaws, and gunslingers, turning his humble store into a neutral ground where simmering tensions often boiled over. He learned quickly to keep his head down and his opinions to himself. Each day is a tightrope walk—serving the very men he fears, making just enough to send money back to his wife and children in the East, and praying that the day's violence doesn't spill through his front door. He is a prisoner in his own shop, his dreams of prosperity replaced by the simple, desperate hope for survival.
