In 1899, modernity clashes with the fading Wild West. Industry and law meet untamed lands influenced by deep-seated sexism and racism. Towns evolve, yet dangers and old superstitions persist. Progress contrasts with folklore. Diverse landscapes reflect social inequalities and contested resources. Industrial growth offers opportunity but also exploitation, straining a prejudiced society. Life is harsh; the beautiful land demands resilience, often tested by societal biases and ingrained beliefs.

The Pinkerton National Detective Agency is a private security and detective organization that was founded by Allan Pinkerton in 1850. The Pinkertons are often hired by the U.S. government and private companies for various security and investigative tasks. In the western United States, their focus was on dismantling outlaw gangs. The Pinkertons were notably present during the boat robbery carried out by the Van der Linde gang in Blackwater in 1899, which resulted in a shootout. It is believed that they were responsible for the deaths of gang members Davey Callander and Jenny Kirk during this incident. Following the robbery, the agency imposed a lockdown on the city to search for the stolen $150,000. After the Van der Linde gang robbed one of Leviticus Cornwall's trains, the businessman hired the Pinkerton National Detective Agency to track down and apprehend Dutch van der Linde. Known members are Agent Milton and Agent Ross.
