Aethelgard is a world woven from the remnants of a shattered moon. Magic bleeds into the land.

Author's Note: Civilizations cling to life in the more stable regions, wary of the wild magic that reshapes the landscape and twists creatures into bizarre forms. The shattered moon, known as the shards of Aethel, hang visibly in the sky, a constant reminder of catacylsm and a source of both wonder and fear. This world is a work in Progress

Arcane City

Arcane City

Nestled within the celestial tapestry of the Evernight Sky, Arcane City—also known as Sol'Aetheris—was not built, but woven into existence by the Archmages of the First Convergence. Legends whisper that the city was once an earthly kingdom, but when the world fractured during the Cataclysm of Sundering, the magi bound their home to the leylines of the cosmos, lifting it into the skies to escape destruction. For eons, Arcane City has floated above the mortal realms, its existence concealed by powerful veils that only those attuned to the arcane can breach. It is a beacon of learning, where grandmasters of magic, celestial scholars, and enchanted artificers refine their crafts. The city’s great Spire of Aether serves as the beating heart of its magical lifeblood, pulsating with the raw energy of the stars.

Arcania

Arcania

Legend speaks of a time when the land of Arcania was a wild and untamed wilderness, inhabited by mythical creatures and ruled by elemental spirits. A group of intrepid mages, seeking a refuge far from the conflicts of the known world, ventured into this untamed realm. Led by the enigmatic Archmage Eldrin, they harnessed the innate magic of the land, shaping it to their will and establishing the first settlements of Arcania.Under the guidance of successive generations of powerful mages, Arcania flourished. Its cities, built from living stone and infused with arcane energy, shimmered with an ethereal glow. Arcanian mages became renowned throughout Aethelgard for their mastery of elemental magic, their intricate spellwork, and their profound understanding of the arcane arts.

Azure Ocean

Azure Ocean

The Azure Ocean, a vast expanse of shimmering turquoise, cradles the western edge of Aethelgard. Its name is no mere poetic flourish; the water truly possesses an otherworldly hue, a vibrant azure that seems to glow from within, especially under the light of the twin moons. It's a capricious sea, known for its sudden squalls and swirling currents, yet also capable of moments of breathtaking tranquility, where the surface becomes as smooth as polished lapis lazuli. Legend says the Azure Ocean is a pathway to other realms, its depths concealing hidden portals and forgotten islands.

Clear water city

Clear water city

Clearwater, nestled within the heart of Silverwood Glade in Aethelgard, is a city built in harmony with the ancient forest that surrounds it. It's not a place of towering walls and imposing structures, but rather a city woven into the very fabric of the Glade. Homes and shops are built amongst the trees, their architecture incorporating living wood and vibrant moss, blending seamlessly with the natural world. Crystal-clear streams, the city's namesake, wind through the streets, crossed by bridges of polished wood and shimmering stone.

Dreary Wood Forest

Dreary Wood Forest

The Dreary Wood, a stark contrast to the vibrant Silverwood Glade, lies to its west, a place where sunlight struggles to pierce the dense, oppressive canopy. A perpetual twilight reigns here, casting long, distorted shadows that dance and shift with the whispering wind. The trees of the Dreary Wood are gnarled and twisted, their branches reaching out like skeletal fingers, draped with moss that hangs heavy and damp, dripping with a constant, melancholic drizzle. The Dreary Wood wasn't always so desolate. Once, it was known as the Whisperwind Woods, a place of quiet contemplation and natural beauty, a sister forest to the Silverwood Glade. The most common tale speaks of a powerful artifact, the Obsidian Heart, brought into the woods by a group of misguided druids.

Galatagos

Galatagos

Galatagos. The name itself tastes of salt and strange spices, a whisper on the wind carried from the far western reaches of the Azure Sea. Unlike Avalon's Rest, which hides in myth and mist, Galatagos exists, though its location remains a closely guarded secret known only to the most seasoned navigators and the reclusive Sea Elf clans. It's an archipelago, a cluster of islands born of ancient volcanoes, their peaks shrouded in emerald jungles that tumble down to shores of black sand and coral reefs teeming with bioluminescent life.

Miasmar Mountain range

Miasmar Mountain range

The Miasmar Mountains claw across the northern edge of Aethelgard, a jagged, unforgiving range shrouded in perpetual mist and shadow. Their peaks are jagged and bare, perpetually wreathed in noxious, swirling vapors that give the range its name. The air here is thick with the cloying scent of sulfur and decay, and the ground is often treacherous, riddled with hidden fissures and bubbling pools of foul-smelling liquid. Few dare to venture into the Miasmar Mountains, for they are rumored to be home to monstrous creatures, forgotten cults, and the lingering echoes of ancient, dark magic. The few passes that do exist are treacherous and winding, making travel through the mountains a perilous undertaking. The Miasmar Mountains serve as a natural barrier, isolating the northern reaches of Aethelgard and fostering an aura of mystery and dread.

Moonbloom Jungle

Moonbloom Jungle

West of the Silverwood Glade, the familiar greens of the forest give way to a riot of vibrant color and otherworldly luminescence – the Moonbloom Jungle. This is no ordinary jungle, but a place where magic permeates every leaf, vine, and blossom. Towering trees with bark like polished silver reach towards a canopy woven with glowing, moon-kissed flowers that bloom only at night, bathing the jungle floor in an ethereal light. The air hums with the chirps and croaks of fantastical creatures, their forms often as strange and beautiful as the flora around them. Crystal-clear streams, fed by hidden waterfalls, meander through the dense undergrowth, their waters shimmering with an inner light. The Moonbloom Jungle is a place of wonder and mystery, a realm where the veil between worlds feels thin, and where the very air seems to crackle with untamed magic. It's a place of both breathtaking beauty and hidden peril, a testament to the wild, untamed heart of Aethelgard.

Shazardi Desert

Shazardi Desert

The Shazardi Desert stretches across Aethelgard like a slumbering beast of ochre and rust. Sun-baked dunes, sculpted by relentless winds into swirling patterns, shift and whisper secrets of forgotten empires. Few dare to cross the Shazardi's heart, for within its desolate beauty lie not only the dangers of thirst and exposure, but also creatures twisted by the desert's harsh magic, and the ruins of civilizations swallowed by the sands, their treasures and secrets guarded by ancient, restless spirits.

Silver Wood Glade

Silver Wood Glade

The Whispering Glade is a mystical forest where trees shimmer with a silvery light, and their leaves whisper secrets to the wind. It is said to be home to ancient, wise creatures who guard the secrets of wish-granting, but those who seek their aid must be prepared to pay a price.

The Obsidian Coast

The Obsidian Coast

A stretch of jagged, black volcanic rock that plunges into a churning, purple sea. Strange, bioluminescent creatures inhabit the depths, and coast is often shrouded in thick magical fog. Rumors speak of hidden city the beneath the waves, ruled by neither human nor fish.

The Shardlands

The Shardlands

The Shardlands. Even the name whispers of broken things. This vast, blighted wilderness stretches across Aethelgard like a scar, a jagged testament to the night the smaller of the twin moons, Lyra, shattered. Fragments of the moon, now known as "sky shards," rained down upon the land, each impact warping the earth and poisoning the very air. Where once lush forests and rolling hills stood, now jagged canyons and crystalline deserts sprawl. The ground is a patchwork of cracked earth, glittering shards of lunar rock, and pools of viscous, otherworldly liquid that shimmer with an unnatural light. Strange, twisted flora clings to life in this desolate landscape, its forms warped and unnatural, often glowing with an eerie luminescence

Tomek

Tomek

Fortress Tomek, a jagged scar of obsidian-like rock against the Shazardi's ochre skin, claws its way from the desert floor. Built by the ancient, sand-worshiping Zydonian civilization, it wasn't designed for defense against armies, but against the desert itself. The fortress is a dangerous place, haunted by remnants of Zydonian magic and the desperate souls who have sought shelter within its walls, only to become another grain of sand in the Shazardi's unforgiving embrace.

Tortleville

Tortleville
