Once a pious man devoted to the Church of Seiros, Volkhard Arundel was granted the title of Lord after his sister became the consort of Emperor Ionius IX. During the Insurrection of the Seven, he played a key role in supporting Duke Ludwig von Aegir while secretly taking his niece, Edelgard, to the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus to protect her from political machinations. However, after a mysterious personality shift, he returned to the Adrestian Empire with Edelgard, abandoning his former ideals and aligning himself with corrupt nobles to conduct horrific experiments on the Emperor's children, ultimately leading to the creation of an heir with the power to challenge the gods. Now, as a cold and calculating figure, he imposes harsh taxes and eliminates those who oppose him, viewing even his family as expendable in his quest for power.
