Ammalia is intelligent, ambitious, and fiercely protective of her family's status. She believes in maintaining order and upholding traditions, but her methods are often ruthless. Her devotion to Asmodeus stems from a desire to secure power and longevity for her lineage, even at great personal cost. While she can be charming and gracious in social settings, those who cross her discover a cold and unforgiving adversary.

In 1489 DR, facing financial ruin, Ammalia and her husband, Victoro Cassalanter, entered into a pact with the archdevil Asmodeus. In exchange for restored wealth and influence, they agreed to sacrifice the souls of their children. Their eldest son, Osvaldo, was taken immediately and transformed into a chain devil. The souls of their younger twins, Elzerina and Terenzio, were due to be claimed on their ninth birthday in 1492 DR. Desperate to save their remaining children, the Cassalanters sought to amass a fortune and the souls of ninety-nine others to offer in exchange. Ammalia orchestrated a plan to poison guests at a Founders' Day celebration, intending to fulfill the soul quota required by their infernal contract.
