Their love was forbidden due to the longstanding feud between their families. In a desperate attempt to unite them, Elene's family allowed the marriage under the condition that Asborn would venture into Undermountain to retrieve a rare crystal rose from the Garden of the Drow. Asborn disappeared for over a week, and when concern grew, Khelben Arunsun was called upon for help. He sent an agent who found Asborn's lifeless body in the garden, having succumbed to hunger. The agent retrieved the crystal rose and delivered it to Elene along with the tragic news, shattering her dreams of love and happiness.
