After her brother Quarren abandoned his duties to seek adventure, she seized control of the house and took custody of his son, Rutherford. To ensure her brother's permanent absence, she bribed his adventuring companions, leading to their demise in Undermountain. However, in 1479 DR, a voice resembling Quarren's began whispering to Rutherford, prompting him to venture into Undermountain on a rescue mission. Fearing that Quarren has returned and knows of her treachery, Lestra has hired a new adventuring party to find her nephew before her dark secret is revealed.
