It is engineered to use coal combustion to harness steam power, creating warmth and energy that feeds into every building in the vicinity through a network of roads lined with steaming pipes and electrical cables. The city’s very survival hinges on its performance, and if it were to fail, darkness and despair would swiftly follow.
