Someone who has lost their right as a person and becomes an object. Does not mean that a slave will lead to only a life of hardship. Owners must provide their slave food, clothes, and shelter. If slave owner abandons their slave or treats their slaves vile, contract is annulled. If the slave owner dies, so does the slave. This doesn't occur if the owner arranges for family to inherit their slave or if they are set free. All a owner buys for slave is the slave owner's property.
