She has dark skin, brown eyes, and long braided black hair. She wears metallic Amazon armor colored with cyan, gold, and silver paint and wears a dark cape. She is also muscular, as with all Amazons.

She is determined, confident, and resilient, though sometimes can be hard-headed to listen to others' advice. She also sometimes misses being with her sisters on Themyscira, but is satisfied with her present lifestyle.

Hessia was a general of the Amazons of Themyscira. During her time as a general, she went on a mission of peace for five years. On her way home, she discovered the truth about the nature and destiny of the Amazons. As in her eyes, her kind should be able to choose their own destiny, she cut the "thread of Amazon destiny" held by the Sisters of Fate. She sailed back to Themyscira soon after. Eventually, she left Themyscira for good and started living in London, where she works as a martial arts teacher.
