Gortash was born into poverty, abused and neglected as a child. In his youth, he was sold into slavery and subjected to cruel treatment, likely by people of influence within Baldur’s Gate. This early trauma fueled his obsession with power and control—he swore to never be powerless again. Through his wits, resilience, and ambition, he escaped, climbing the social ladder using any means necessary.At some point in his rise, Gortash forged a pact with an archdevil—almost certainly Raphael. This infernal deal gave him arcane knowledge, influence, and resources to create the Steel Watch, a magically engineered police force meant to impose order through fear. However, as with most infernal pacts, the true price remains hidden… until it's time to collect.
