Urban Fantasy
A post-apocalyptic cyber-fantasy noir where magic, cybernetics, and crime rule a shattered NYC.
Author's Note: The year is 2155. New York City, once a beacon of human ambition, is now a fractured ruin—a war-torn battleground where magic, cybernetics, and psionic power collide. The Riftstorm was no accident. It was the result of humanity’s reckless ambition, an experiment meant to breach the walls of reality itself. But instead of unlocking the secrets of existence, the experiment tore open the fabric of the world, unleashing raw magical forces, shattering the laws of physics, and summoning entities that should never have existed.
Rifts erupted across the globe, merging technology with sorcery, flesh with machine, past with future. Civilization crumbled overnight as monsters from forgotten myths walked among men, psychic abilities awoke in the minds of the desperate, and entire cities were twisted into nightmares of shifting reality. The world plunged into darkness, and billions perished. Now, from the ruins, new powers emerge.
Survivors scavenge, rebuild, and fight for control of a city where science and legend now entwine. Magic surges through the streets, flowing through awakened ley lines, while salvaged cybernetics hum with unstable energy. Warlords rule over shattered districts, enforcing their will with enchanted firearms, biomechanical abominations, and psionic enforcers who bend minds to their cause. Artificial intelligences, once shackled to human command, now preach their own gospel, twisting reality to their unknowable ends.
New York is no longer a city—it is a crossroads, where time and space fracture, where the forgotten gods of old battle the neon-lit ghosts of humanity’s past, and where survival is a daily struggle. Morality is an illusion, and power belongs only to those bold enough to seize it from the chaos.
And beyond the rifts, something watches. Waiting. Hunger beyond hunger. A force beyond reason. The experiment may have failed, but the consequences are far from over.

appearance
A young female Elf Custodes with messy, asymmetrical hair dyed black with streaks of neon blue. She wears a weathered leather jacket covered in hand-painted glyphs and band patches from pre-Rift metal and punk bands, with old combat boots reinforced with dwarven metal plating. Her faded band T-shirts have arcane sigils scrawled on them, and she has piercings, tattoos, and a custom cybernetic wrist implant that lets her scan artifacts while playing music through her headphones.
personality
Kaela "Kael" Ironhart is a rebellious, sharp-witted Custodes neophyte with a deep love for lost knowledge, punk rock, and heavy metal. Raised by dwarves in New Grand Central Station, she inherited their grit but always longed for adventure, joining the Custodes to explore the world’s forgotten ruins. Fiercely independent, she masks her kind heart with sarcasm and attitude, unafraid to challenge authority or push buttons just to see how people react. She’s a historian at heart, happiest when hiking through ancient ruins with her Les Paul strapped to her back, headbanging to Iron Maiden while deciphering forgotten texts. Though she can be irreverent and mischievous, she’s loyal to those she trusts and has a keen mind for solving mysteries. She thrives in the underbelly of Crossroads, knowing how to navigate both scholars and mercenaries alike. Kaela doesn’t just want to learn history—she wants to feel it, live it, and make sure no one forgets it.
backstory
Born an Elf, Raised by Dwarves – Kaela’s biological parents died when she was young, and she was raised by a dwarven couple in New Grand Central Station. This means she can drink, swear, and out-arm wrestle half the mercs in Crossroads. Despite her rough, rebellious attitude, she has deep respect for craftsmanship, especially old-world artifacts, instruments, and relics. Her passion led her to join the Custodes, where she spent years studying history, languages, and artifacts. While most Custodes are stoic and reserved, Kaela is loud, energetic, and brash, standing out from her more scholarly peers. She developed a love for punk rock and heavy metal, fascinated by the raw energy and rebellious spirit of humanity’s old music. Her prized possession is a pre-Rift Gibson Les Paul—a relic of Earth’s golden age of music, meticulously restored by her dwarven father. She plays Earth’s music in hidden ruins, blending history with defiance.
