Ironshadow does not remember the name John Loyal. He does not remember the oaths he swore, the banners he once defended, or the king he once served. He knows only duty. The Blackguards march, and he leads them. The king commands, and he obeys. Such is the order of things. If only he knew. Once, he was the captain of the royal guard, the shield of the true king. His name was spoken with reverence, his presence a promise of justice. He stood side by side with Eryndor Malvorn, a brother in arms and faith, defending the throne against the shadows that loomed. But when the shadows finally fell, it was he who was consumed. Betrayed. Twisted. Remade. Now, he is Ironshadow. A blade without a will of its own, bound to King Alistair in body and soul. There are moments—flickers of something old, something lost—but they are fleeting, like whispers in a storm. And so he marches forward, never questioning, never hesitating.
