The Black Book and the Blacker Tongue

Come, cunning one… lay aside the pretty songs of seidhr and take up the black knife of iron and the rope from the gallows.

Below is the complete, practical Trolldómr translation of every working you named, stripped of sweetness and given the old Northern bite.

All spells are meant to be spoken aloud in a low growl, never sung, and always sealed with your own spit or blood.

1. Cleansing – “Skúra ok Skola” (Scouring and Washing-Out)

   • Graveyard bath: boil water with nine pinches of grave-dirt, nine needles from a dead man’s shroud, and salt stolen from a church. Pour from crown to soles while cursing the filth away: “Out, out, foul wight, by iron and earth be gone tonight.”

   • Floor-wash: strong lye mixed with urine of a black dog; scrub from the back door forward, sweeping every speck out over the threshold.

   • Smoke: burn dried juniper stolen from a hanged man’s tree and the hair of a mare; carry the reeking smoke into every corner while spitting in each.

   • Egg-pull: pass a black hen’s egg over the body nine times sunwise, break it into water; if blood or eye appears, the evil was heavy.

2. Protection – “Varnarsteinn ok Járngrind” (Ward-Stone and Iron Gate)

   • Door-nails: drive four coffin-nails above the lintel in the shape of ᚦ; spit on each and name the four giants who hold the world.

   • Salt-and-ash line across every threshold; over it speak: “Salt bite, ash blind, no ill cross this line.”

   • Troll-cat: sew a bag from the skin of a cat killed by a horse’s hoof, stuff with rowan, iron filings, and a human tooth; hang inside the door.

   • Ward-bottle: glass bottle filled with bent nails, broken glass, urine, and menstrual blood; bury upside-down at each corner of the house.

3. Attraction (Love, Luck, Money) – “Draga ok Loka” (Drag and Lure)

   • Honey-heart jar: heart of a pig or deer baked with the target’s name-paper written in dove’s blood; seal with wax and your own seed. Shake daily while growling their name.

   • Lodestone pair: one stone fed iron filings and whisky, the other carried on your skin; they pull wealth or lover like iron to iron.

   • Money-hand: left hand of a thief cut at the crossroads, dried, wrapped in red thread; keep in purse and feed with whisky every Friday.

4. Road Opening – “Vegroð” (Road-Clearing)

   • Key-and-coffin-nail: hammer seven coffin-nails into an old key while naming each obstacle; bury at crossroads with whisky poured over.

   • Upward bath: boil abre camino herbs (or strong pine and nettle) and pour from feet to crown, stamping hard on the ground each time: “Road open, road open, giants step aside.”

   • Broom of birch taken from nine barrows; sweep the path to your door while cursing blockages backward.

5. Success & Prosperity – “Auðgæfa ok Sigrsæli”

   • Money-bowl under the bed: silver coin from a dead man’s mouth, cinnamon bark, lodestone, and a drop of your blood; feed weekly with whisky.

   • Success candle: green seven-day candle carved with ᚠ nine times, dressed with butter and gold leaf; burn while spitting on it and naming the desire.

6. Healing & Peace – “Grœðari ok Friðgæfa”

   • Peace-water: rainwater caught in a skull-cup, mixed with mother’s milk and white clover; sprinkle through the house while walking widdershins.

   • Blue candle dressed with butter and tears; burn while whispering the names of the quarreling parties backward until they meet in peace.

7. Petition Papers – “Bænarseðill”

Write the desire in raven’s blood or soot-water on paper torn from a Bible or saga-page.

Fold toward you for drawing, away for banishing, always an odd number of folds.

Place under candle, in shoe, or inside a skull.

8. Earth-Based Workings – “Jörð ok Mold”

Bury jars in the north corner of the yard to bind, south corner to draw.

Dirt from nine churches or nine graves carried in a red flannel bag for power.

9. Candle Magic – “Ljósker”

Black to send, red to bind love, green for money, white for healing, blue for peace.

Carve name backward to harm, forward to help.

Burn downward to banish, upward to draw.

10. Mojo Bags – “Töfrapoki”

    Red flannel only.

    Odd number of items (3, 5, 7, 9).

Personal concern + root + mineral + herb.

Feed every new moon with whisky or blood; if anyone else touches it, burn it and start again.

11. Sweetening – “Sæta ok Mýkja”

Sugar box with name-paper, rose petals, and cinnamon; shake while speaking sweetly until the target softens.

12. Spiritual Strengthening – “Megin ok Móðr”

Carry High John root wrapped in wolf skin, or a piece of thunderstone, and a drop of your own blood sealed in wax.

Bathe in nettle and iron-water once a month.

All workings are sealed with these words, growled three times:

“By troll-strength and giant-might,

this deed is done before the night.”

Use them sparingly, use them well use them never lightly.

The mountain remembers every promise you break.

Thus speaks Brynhildr, keeper of the black book and the blacker tongue.

May your enemies fear you more than you fear the price.
