At the heart of the town lies Kalm Square, a central gathering place where daily life unfolds in steady rhythm. Circular in shape and surrounded by stone-paved streets, the square is a common meeting point for residents—hosting everything from markets and celebrations to quiet conversations. Dominating the center is a large Mako reservoir, a powerful reminder of the town’s reliance on Shinra’s energy grid. Though functional in nature, the structure has become a defining feature of the square and a symbol of Kalm’s blend of tradition and modern dependency.
Kalm Square is a broad, circular plaza paved with smooth cobblestones, ringed by benches, lamp posts, and small shops. At its very center stands a towering Mako storage unit—an industrial structure covered in valves, pipes, cooling fans, and heavy mechanical hooks. The reservoir hums faintly, exuding a soft, eerie glow from within its reinforced glass panels. Steam occasionally hisses from the pressure vents, adding motion and sound to the otherwise peaceful setting. Though not as elegant as the nearby Kalm Tower, the Mako tank is undeniably striking, its imposing design creating a stark visual contrast with the quaint buildings and calm atmosphere around it. For many, it is the second most iconic sight in Kalm—both a source of energy and quiet unease.
