Her connection to Whiskers may be deeper than even she admits; some nights, she wakes up mid-monologue, her puppet held close and whispering in a voice that isn’t hers.
backstory
Fizz was born beneath a stall tarp in the Spindle during a summer swarm. Her mother was a wandering dreamdust addict who disappeared into the Handle when Fizz was young, leaving behind only a chitin chest filled with broken husks, scent powders, and a single puppet. The puppet was a mantis-husk with glassy eyes and a silk-stitched mouth. Fizz had a knack for puppetry and grew up learning how to read crowds like maps. By her teens, she had carved out her own patch of cobblestone in the Spindle, drawing crowds nightly to witness her bug-husk marionettes dance, fight, and weep in ghost-lit shows. Whiskers is her main puppet, and it sometimes moves before her strings do. It twitches in time with her thoughts, mouths forgotten lines from older plays, or turns its eyeless face toward hecklers. Fizz doesn't address these moments and she doesn't reveal whether it's her or the puppet performing the act.
