backstory
Thaeven Drelmort was once a dirt-smeared field hand in the undergrowth farms beneath the Sprigs, tending bulk feeder insects for chitin scrap. But his uncanny way with arthropods caught the eye of a Barley scion, who whisked him away to apprentice beneath the breeders of the Varlas Conservatory. He spent decades mastering insect pheromancy, learning how to coax silk from stubborn spinner moths with scent alone and how to grow venom glands like fruits on carefully dosed mantids. He ascended quietly to caretaker of the Conservatory’s rarest breeding chambers, including the Whisperleaf Hatch—a garden grown from pollen-reactive beetle minds. Now, Thaeven’s word is law within the Conservatory’s glass halls. His creations make fortunes and ruin careers. Though he rarely speaks in the auction lounges, the buyers know his faintest glance determines whether a deal moves forward or dissolves into silence.
