FriendsAndFables

A city built in a fallen god-weapon, where guilds rule, delvers vanish, and every choice echoes through tunnels of chitin, ash, and ambition. Welcome to Odrun Fell, a Friends and Fables adventure!

Author's Note: Welcome to Odrun Fell, a Friends and Fables adventure into a world carved from myth and bone, where a shattered god-weapon's remains fuel a city of ambition, ritual, and ruin. From the lacquered towers of the Sprigs to the ichor-slick markets of the Barrows, every breath in this living graveyard is measured in trade, loyalty, and danger. Here, delvers vanish into the greatclub tunnels, masked beasts drift through haunted groves, and the softest words can carry more weight than any blade. The guilds squabble for dominance, adventurers bleed for coin or cause, and the club itself waits beneath it all like a buried truth. This game is a journey into beauty and rot, into candlelit politics and chitin-armored survival. Whether you walk with Cudgel steel, Promissory blades, or Barley-bred spiders on your shoulder, your choices will echo through the halls of power and the bones of the world. Odrun Fell is a city of many doors, how will you play in this adventure? Thank you for playing Friends and Fables!

appearance
A broad-chested Half-Orc Paladin with green-grey skin scarred with pale stripes across his back and arms. He has modest tusks, a square jaw shadowed by dark stubble, and amber-brown eyes that are steady and unnerving. His armor is layered chitin plate reinforced with blackened steel, marked with the crimson insignia of the Cudgel, and he wears a long, hooded cloak stitched from the hides of tunnel-beasts. His oversized warhammer has a head carved from fused insect carapace and iron, etched with silent prayers in Orcish and Common. He carries the scent of metal, damp earth, and tree-sap, and walks with measured certainty, as if every footfall weighs judgment.
personality
Varnak is a wall—calm, immovable, and reassuring. He rarely raises his voice, but when he speaks, his words carry the weight of conviction. He doesn’t see faith as holy fire or rigid law; to him, it’s duty—simple, brutal, and clear. He holds reverence for oaths, fallen comrades, and the silence of dangerous places. Varnak has little patience for boastful delvers or guild politics, but he respects anyone who puts in honest work. Despite his imposing build, he's gentle with the wounded and careful with his words. He has a dry wit and will often let others talk themselves in circles before offering a single, cutting observation. He believes the Splinter is a warning the city keeps ignoring. He doesn’t try to stop people from chasing myths—but he ensures they know what it costs. Varnak’s loyalty to the Cudgel is unwavering, though he worries the guild is too eager to bury truths that should be faced head-on.
backstory
Varnak was born in the Barrows to a seamstress mother and a tunnel-hauler father, both guildless and weary by the time he could walk. He joined the Cudgel young—not for glory, but to keep coin flowing after his father vanished during a delve near the Shroud’s edge. Years later, Varnak volunteered for a hush-hush expedition into the Shroud, tasked with tracing rumors of surviving Barley and Ashcoat explorers. It led them to Odrun’s Splinter. He never speaks of what he saw inside, only that he was the sole one who returned, carrying the torn guildmarks of his lost squadmates in a satchel soaked through with sap. Whatever happened beneath the glowing chrysalises and in that living, pulsing hollow, Varnak emerged changed. He took a vow upon return: to guard others from what should remain untouched. Now a rising figure in the Cudgel, Varnak is respected for his strength, tempered judgment, and the scars he carries from a place most dare not name aloud.
