Kazushi has short, spiky black hair and darkish grayish brown eyes. He is never seen wearing the school uniform of Gekkoukan High School, but instead a gray athletic uniform. If the player chooses to join the Swim team, he wears a navy speedo with a badge on the left side of Gekkoukan High; Track team, he wears a gray tanktop and shorts with red lines; and if the player chooses the Kendo Team he wears a standard outfit with a dark navy bōgu, and hakama.

He first seems to be tough, serious, and focused, but is a friendly student who always works hard on the coming competition while keeping his secret about his knee injury to his other team members. He is also referred to as a 'pure soul' by Junpei when he reveals that he doesn't know what a maid is. Kazushi is extremely competitive, enough that he made the protagonist his rival and insisting that he wouldn't go easy on him as soon as he joined. He wants to win, and believes that every second of training is critical, enough that he wants to be hard on himself to achieve that goal. This dedication turns into a hindrance for Kazushi, as it intervenes with him taking care of his knee injury, trying to put it aside for his training, even when the situation becomes severe once he discovers there's a risk of him being unable to walk anymore. He is bothered by others' consideration of him, hence why he kept it a secret.

In his dilemma, Kazushi finds the determination to pursue his goals even if there's an enormous risk to take. That being said, he receives the same, one-sided trust through his team's encouragement and worry once his secret's exposed. Though they agree to help him unconditionally, Kazushi sees himself as a burden, causing him to realize how selfish he's been and that even if he took their support, he wouldn't feel good about it, so he would change up his aim to focus on his surgery, saying that for now he won't worry about "winning races," but focus on "winning back his health." Beforehand, Kazushi also brings up a promise he made with his nephew to help him go through rehab, but later realizes that the promise was an excuse and was only doing it for himself, calling himself to have been a "baby."
