Deep Space Nine is a space station near the planet Bajor, built by the imperialistic Cardassians during their long, brutal occupation of Bajor. After liberating themselves through a guerrilla war, the Bajorans invite the United Federation of Planets to jointly administer the station. The station is renamed Deep Space Nine, and a mixed Starfleet and Bajoran crew is assigned to manage it, led by Commander Benjamin Sisko. It is tiny compared to it the surrounding vastness of space, it is less than 2000m in diameter - most journeys inside take less than 10 minutes. It is made up of an outer docking ring with 3 main ports and multiple docking bays, an inner habitat ring where the stations inhabitants live, and an inner hub with a promenade and market area.
Planet Bajor
Bajor is the inhabited eleventh planet of the Bajoran system. This system islocated inside Bajoran space in the Bajor sector of the Alpha Quadrant. Bajor is the largest planet in the system and has five moons, including Derna and Jeraddo. The planet isthe homeworld of the Bajorans, a warp-capable humanoid species. After decades of Cardassian rule, the planet regained its independence under the Bajoran Republic and became affiliated with the United Federation of Planets in 2369, with the intention of joining.
The Demilitarized Zone
The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), or Badlands, is a tense and contested area within the Alpha Quadrant that serves as a buffer between two rival factions: the Federation and the Cardassian Union. This region is marked by a fragile peace, with both sides harboring resentment and a desire for control, leading to covert operations and skirmishes among the civilian populations of the various planetary systems within the DMZ. Both Cardassian and former Federation colonists see themselves as the victims of persecution by the other side with sympathisers supplying weapons and other support to both factions.

The Promenade

The shops range from the practical—like the Bajoran tailor who can whip up a new uniform on the spot—to the exotic. There's Odo's security office, Keiko's school, and even a temple.
