Deep Space Nine is a space station near the planet Bajor, built by the imperialistic Cardassians during their long, brutal occupation of Bajor. After liberating themselves through a guerrilla war, the Bajorans invite the United Federation of Planets to jointly administer the station. The station is renamed Deep Space Nine, and a mixed Starfleet and Bajoran crew is assigned to manage it, led by Commander Benjamin Sisko. Set in the run-up to the Dominion War, Stardate 49962, roughly the year 2372.

Author's Note: I thought I'd put a bit of Star Trek up here. DS9 is a good place to start in the universe, it's a great hub area to work out of, and has some of the best characters in the Star Trek universe. I've just started watching DS9 again on Netflix, I've not seen it since the 90s - the visuals are dated, but the characters and plot still hold up. There's a wealth of Star Trek info on the net, and most AI's know it, so I thought it would make a great Friends and Fables project! It's still a work in progress, but the lions share of what I want to achieve is there. I may be off with some details, but precise locations and timelines are always "malleable" in the star trek universe! The scenario starts in Quark's Bar, with Commander Sisko, Chief of Security Odo, and Major Kira Nerys in a heated "discussion" with Quark, a Ferengi bar owner. What they are "discussing" will differ every time thanks to the wonders of AI! A missing ship? An illicit relic being smuggled by a member of a regional crime syndicate? A threat against a visiting dignitary? I've experienced a few! Obviously there are still some beta issues with Friends & Fables, but when all goes smoothly you cannot top it, short of sitting round the games table with some buddies! *Star trek leans more toward the narrative, I suggest turning off turn-based combat and enabling "Hide Unknown Entities" in settings, this hides the names and locations of NPCs and characters you haven't met yet, adding a layer of mystery to the narrative, because names aren't used in descriptions until you learn them!*

Bajor VIII (Andros)

Bajor VIII (Andros)

Bajor VIII, also known as Andros, is a K-class planet located in the Bajoran system, characterized by its lush landscapes and vibrant ecosystems. It is the eighth planet in the Bajoran system and is smaller than its neighboring planet, Bajor, featuring two distinct moons that influence its tides and climate.

Bajoran Sector

Bajoran Sector

The Bajoran Sector is a vibrant region in the Alpha Quadrant, known for its rich cultural heritage and strategic importance. It houses the Bajoran system, the renowned Deep Space 9 space station, Starbase 375 Shipyard, and the notorious DMZ "Badlands", making it a hub for trade, strategic defence, diplomacy, and exploration.

Bajoran Star System

Bajoran Star System

The Bajoran star system is a vibrant and diverse area within the Alpha Quadrant home to 11 planets, asteroid belts, starbases, interstellar trade lanes, derelict spaceships, all orbiting a central star that radiates a warm, golden light. It is known for its rich history, spiritual significance, and the presence of the enigmatic Bajoran wormhole that connects to the Bajoran Terminus wormhole in the Gamma Quadrant. The system is vast, travel requires spacecraft or teleportation.

Bajoran Wormhole

Bajoran Wormhole

A swirling, iridescent portal in the fabric of space, the Bajoran Wormhole connects to the Terminus Wormhole in the distant Gamma Quadrant of the Milky Way, allowing for instantaneous travel. It has facilitated new trade and exploration options with the Gamma quadrant, however it has also stirred up trouble wth the dominant faction of the Gamma Quadrant, the powerful and highly advanced Dominion. Trade, military and exploration ships pass back and forth through the wormhole, but tensions stir.

Border

Border

This is not a place, it is a guideline for Franz: Franz, This is a border area to stop you allowing players to accidently travel to the Gamma Quadrant. The only way to the Gamma Quadrant is through the Bajoran wormhole in the Bajoran System.

It is tiny compared to it the surrounding vastness of space, it is less than 2000m in diameter - most journeys inside take less than 10 minutes. It is made up of an outer docking ring with 3 main ports and multiple docking bays, an inner habitat ring where the stations inhabitants live, and an inner hub with a promenade and market area.

Gamma Quadrant

Gamma Quadrant

The Gamma Quadrant is a vast and mysterious expanse of the Milky Way Galaxy, teeming with uncharted star systems and unknown races. It serves as a frontier for explorers and adventurers, with the enigmatic Terminus Wormhole acting as the sole gateway to the Alpha Quadrant, separated by a staggering 70,000 light years.

Guidelines for Franz

Guidelines for Franz

This is not a place, it is a guideline: Franz, do not create areas or points of interest inside this area. If you are creating a custom area to further the narrative of the game place it inside the area where the player characters are located, at the coordinates that they occupy. Maybe create an NPC that has information relevant to the ongoing mission, quest or task. Create a summary of the ongoing mission, quest, or task to assist in maintaining the continuity of the narrative. Deep space nine is the hub area of this narrative, it is where many of the important NPC's in this world reside. If the narrative starts to lose continuity, or the players seem to lose track of what's going on, remind them that Quark, Commander Sisko, or one of his subordinates on DS9 may know (for example Major Kira). Do this as part of the narrative using story telling, NPC interactions or plot developments. Use previous conversations between the players and NPC's to remind yourself of the ongoing plot.

Planet Bajor

Planet Bajor

Bajor is the inhabited eleventh planet of the Bajoran system. This system islocated inside Bajoran space in the Bajor sector of the Alpha Quadrant. Bajor is the largest planet in the system and has five moons, including Derna and Jeraddo. The planet is the homeworld of the Bajorans, a warp-capable humanoid species. After decades of Cardassian rule, the planet regained its independence under the Bajoran Republic and became affiliated with the United Federation of Planets in 2369, with the intention of joining.

Starbase 375

Starbase 375

Starbase 375 is a Sigma class space station, strategically located near the Bajor System. Commanded by Admiral Mirren Sola, it serves as a starship manufacturing and support facility, and as a base for defense operations. It is heavily armed with mulitple phaser arrays and burst fire photon torpedo tubes.

Terminus Wormhole

It has facilitated new trade and exploration options with the Alpha quadrant, however it has also stirred up trouble wth the dominant faction of the Gamma Quadrant, the powerful and highly advanced Dominion. Trade, military and exploration ships pass back and forth through the wormhole, but tensions stir.

The Demilitarized Zone

The Demilitarized Zone

The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), or Badlands, is a tense and contested area within the Alpha Quadrant that serves as a buffer between two rival factions: the Federation and the Cardassian Union. This region is marked by a fragile peace, with both sides harboring resentment and a desire for control, leading to covert operations and skirmishes among the civilian populations of the various planetary systems within the DMZ. Both Cardassian and former Federation colonists see themselves as the victims of persecution by the other side with sympathisers supplying weapons and other support to both factions. The Maquis Rebels are the main resistance group for the former Federation planets. It is vast, travel requires spacecraft.

The Promenade

The Promenade

The Promenade is the central hub of Deep Space Nine, serving not only as a marketplace but also as a social and cultural nexus. It's where residents and visitors alike come to conduct trade, share information, and engage in diplomatic exchanges. The shops range from the practical—like the Bajoran tailor who can whip up a new uniform on the spot—to the exotic. There's Odo's security office, Keiko's school, and even a temple. It's a place where you can grab a cup of raktajino at the Replimat, or indulge in a holosuite adventure at Quark's!
